Acer Aspire 5532 July 28, 2010 dylan tanner Great laptop at a great price. Its fast to boot up for the internet and doesnt seem to use much energy. With windows 7 you cant go wrong.

Dylan
Does what it says on the box July 23, 2010 Grumpy When my Dell Inspiron 1501 began to misbehave (about 1 month after the 3 year warranty expired), I was looking for a replacement. I would have gone back to Dell because the new models seemed to be good value. Then I saw the Acer on Amazon. All the features I was looking for in a runabout laptop (my other pc's a Porsche by comparison) and cheaper than the Dell, too!
It looks good and it performs well. To be fair, I've only had it for a couple of months and I haven't actually tried the more recent Dell equivalent to my old one. But so far, so good. It virtually set itself up and it does exactly what it says on the box. I'm happy with that.
Notes - Principal use: medium complexity graphic design, web design and presentations on Windows platforms.
Acer Aspire - my choice July 22, 2010 Peter Stott (Malaga, Spain) This notebook was bought to replace the smaller netbook. My wife is tracing her family tree on line and the larger screen and better resolution is exactly what she needs. This is a stylish looking laptop with many features and we are very pleased with the performance and would have given a 5 star rating, however I have knocked off one star as Microsoft Office was not included and needed to be purchased at a cost of 72 pounds. Okay I should have read the small print and okay most of the manufacturers/suppliers don't include it but it is just a bit of a con to keep the price down. Apart from that little middle aged grumble.....overall we like the machine and it does what is says on the tin!
Could be worse July 7, 2010 Ms. M. Farooq (United Kingdom, London) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was unhappy when I first opened it, because I realised it wasn't a notebook (I know I wasn't buying one I mean I had a little regret) but bearing in mind my main focus was the screen size and internal memory.
No CDs come with the box, you need to get your own set of 3 to make recovery disks which I didn't bother with until later.
Norton and Mcafee(?) trials randomly pop up on this laptop, I chose to use Avast instead for free.
I don't use it as regularly as my last laptop, I'm not a fan of Windows 7, can't stand the stubby look, big square icons on the taskbar.
The features don't work for some reason:
-Shake the window and everything else disappears
-Snap two windows equally on the page
My brother tampered with my settings to increase performance it may be the cause of the lack of windows 7 features. Not sure.
Preinstalled softwares included which I found useful, it's snippet? Apologies I'm using a different PC to review, but what it does is let you draw a marquee around your monitor display and save/copy. Saves time rather than taking print screens!
Other Points:
-No inbuilt speakers, I don't mind too much.
-It has an ok webcam, it's stragely pixelly if you use it to take your pictures especially if you don't use high power. I put on high power especially for photos, looks great.
-Touch pad, I have noticed it is over sensitive even if you brush a small part of your hand on it by mistake it may cause slight irritation.
-Language installation, I've had a bit of problem with this, for some reason I can't type in Asian language on certain softwares, it works automatically on other pcs/laptops I've used.
-Softwares, no problems opening them much
-System, fairly quick
-Speakers, I have no idea where they are located, maybe I will have a proper look next time, but much better than my last laptop (Medion Akoya) where the speakers were located at the back of the keys so not very good.
If you haven't used Windows 7 before you'll just have to get used to some changes. Bear in mind that Windows 7 isn't supported by some software manufactures D; It's sad but you could also go force people to upgrade their services.
I've been a vista use a little while, I miss using the finger scan ah! I dream about it on this laptop haha
Anyways my last comment is, it's a decent enough laptop.
Excellent Laptop for the price July 6, 2010 thomas culleton (shercock, county cavan Ireland) This is an excellent Laptop for the regular home user. It is really good value for the price.
